Why would the hospital have checked him for the Clap?? That's not standard for finding someone, especially a male cop, unconscious is it?!

I never understood that.

The Clap is Gonorrhea, actually.

It's possible they just included a quick gram stain just to cover all bases. After all, he had been drugged, so sexually risky behaviour was not that much of a stretch.
