reply

As much as I like Denzel Washington, I'ld have to agree with you. Lithgow stole every scene he was in with that performance. Which brings me to the conclusion that, Lithgow RULES!!!

reply

Agreed, but the faggy kid he always has hanging around has got to go.

reply

Lithgow absolutely rules in this film. He is one mean S.O.B. That cell mate is Jesse Ventura, the wrestler turned politician.

reply

Lithgow is great. I highly reccomend Raising Cain for anyone that hasn't seen it. It definately shows off his talent.

*cream puff*

sorry but u simply cannot mess that quote up..

This was 1991 and Denzel was basically a newcomer. Plus, Lithgow can steal a scene away from anyone. He's that great. Ha!

reply

I wouldn't go as far as to say forget Denzel, but John Lithgow definitely turned in the performance of his career in this film...one of the screen's nastiest villians. Lithgow and Washington created a wonderful combative chemistry in this film. Lithgow's character apparently had no conscience and Lithgow committed to that in this performance. Great work by both actors IMO.

reply

I wouldn't go that far, either, but I agree wholeheartedly that Lithgow eclipsed Denzel in this film! He was 100% pure evil.

It's funny, but I watched Ricochet and Harry and the Hendersons in the same day last week and it was quite jarring watching him go from psychotic nutcase to mild mannered family man in the space of a few hours lol.

If anything that just goes to show that he has range, he can play anything and make you believe it, that's the sign of a great actor.

reply

i don't agree, you don't really take John Lithgow seriously, he's not that funny either

Usually the bad guy gets the best lines.

At the same time you look at movies like "John Q" where Dinzel plays a father willing to do anything tpo save his son to playing "Malcolm X" itself to then playing a ruthless scumbag cop and you see how great a actor Dinzel is himself. To have both in this movie makes it priceless.

At the same time you look at movies like "John Q" where Denzel plays a father willing to do anything to save his son to playing "Malcolm X" himself to then flip the script by playing a ruthless scumbag cop and you see how great a actor Denzel is himself. To have both in this movie makes it priceless.

I love Lithgow too!!! He is so....bad and still awesome while doing it. I love Denzel too. But for some reason Lithgow's character was just so......scary.

reply

I concur. Lithgow completely rocked as Blake.

"We're all part Shatner/And part James Dean/Part Warren Oates/And Steven McQueen"

reply

Lithgow totally ruled this film. I was so bored by the scenes with Denzel, just waiting for Lithgow to get back on screen.
