I didnt watch the movie from the begining
what hapend on the boat ?????
why did they return to the island ???????

There was a cholera epidemic on the ship. The captain figured that wherever the dinghy had set out from had to be close by and that a small chance of finding it was better than pretty much no chance of surviving if they caught cholera.
