Well it's rated 15 here in UK. Think it would unrealistic to have the characters wear too much. What would you do on a desert island? Anyway i think it is sposed to convey innocence (adam & eve style).
shareI hate to tell people out there but kids these days know much more than we give them credit for. I get tired of people sheltering their kids from what is natural. They will only grow up and either rebel and go to the extremes or be so scared of it that it will be an unhealthy viewpoint towards it. Maybe instead of just letting our kids watch television and movies we discuss things with them or sit down with them and discuss what you are watching together. Imagine that--open communication between parent and child--that's more scary than nudity and violence.
shareI'm with you on that. Children, for the most part, are WAY more advanced at an early age than any previous generation. And MUCH more willing (and able) to rebel to extremes.
And if you don't make a big deal out of nudity, then nudity becomes no big deal.
I couldn't agree more, well said. Nudity in itself has no connotations to sex (for any who disagree with this point is changing clothing, or taking a shower, is that sexual?)
I used to go to a beach in Washington State, which was clotthing optional, some people raised a fuss and a judge ruled nude and lewd are seperate things.
Nude, is natural, naked well that's about how you feel after a tax audit.
One more voice voting for last few posters' attitude.
But I have another serious remark about the nudity and costumes.
Being all alone, raised together since earliest years, you would expect them to be more free in exposing their bodies. With noone other around to object they would find it more easy and practical to be completely clothless, espocially when going into the sea (and having wet clothes after going out). However, if their mother had more strict attitude against showing the body (as if this happened today and if ship were American) they would probably be covered much more than they actually were. This second posibility was less likely, the first one would make it impossible to pass through American censorship, so the authors made this ridiculous compromise.
And even if we accept this semi-nudity (that by far emphasizes sexuality, but sexuality never feared anyone in America, only asexual nudity is a death-penalty crime), do you find those upper parts of costume Milla was wearing to be realistic at the end of 19th century? They remind me more on Mila's 23st century "Fifth Elementh" costumes, than on something a girl - who never saw any swimming costume, any fashion magazine and any other female person except the mother - would make (and change day after day!) on a desert island

If we were to check up on you, would we find that you
don't have any children?
What I get tired of is people who tell us that parents should
not shelter their children from what is natural. I can think
of many natural things--oleander, strychnine and uranium, for
example--from which responsible parents would protect their
children.
Parents can choose to set the boundaries for their children
for their children and still have open communication with them.
It is HIGHLY doubtful that you will ever read this but...
Wow, you are comparing strychnine and uranium to a naked human body...the same naked body we are born with, shower with, stride about the house with (if that makes you happy), & make love with? Pardon me, but wearing clothes is way more unnatural than being nude, if you're going to take that approach. I'm not talking about social attitudes, I'm talking about nature. You don't see a bear putting on pants, do you? Mama gorillas covering their boobs? There is NOTHING unnatural about how our body's are made and work.
Keep your kids sheltered and they'll find out the truth from someone else. But seeing as it's been 6 years since you posted this, you might have already figured that out on your own. Or your kids have mastered the art of telling lies to their parents. That is most likely.

agreed with Gwill22567 about how it was supposed to be a natural thing and was about innocence like adam and eve.
when she was topless he never went to go feel her up or something. he was just attracted by this new feeling he had.
yeah and for me the movie was rated pg 13 so a little nudity is fine.
besides the 1st one had A LOT more nudity.
The quantity shouldn't matter, it is the way how is it presented. And the sequel is surely emphasizing sexuality significantly more than the original - in Blue Lagoon they grow up slowly and slowly the hormones do their job among all other things that happen to the characters. In second part (and the way "clothes" are used I've mentioned above) sexuality is putting everything else in background.
When Blue Lagoon was made, as dealing with the problems and life of teenagers, it was considered a teen-movie in Europe, preceded and followed by numerous European teen movies that were more similar to Blue Lagoon than to modern teen commedies. But as the globalisation came to save and enlighten us, we've been told we have to think by our own free will that it is wrong.

I would have to take some time to make a list, it's not easy to go back almost 30 years ago (well, if I REALlY could do it, it would be worth efforts...). But mostly French and Czech movies come in my mind. La boum, Les turlupins, Les sous-doués, Diabolo menthe... just to mention some French ones. Not in the terms of nudity, noone found it important as a criteria to select movies suitable for teenagers. But Europe kept making this kind of movies untill the west breeze of globalization blew them away gently as Katrina touched New Orleans.

Nudity is great. Only the religous brainwashed think it's wrong. 15 year old girls have sex all the time. Don't forget that young girls can get married at 15 in some states.
There are no laws preventing photographing of nudity. If there were there would be a huge backlash because of all the films already with nudity and magazines too.
To the people who seem bothered by the nudity are you serious. I seem to remember early in the movie on the boat the boy is wearing very little when he is found. I seem to remember both of them being as infants being shirtless at one point or another not long after coming to island, some of the first scenes of them a fewer years older both appear at least shirtless much of the time they are on the scene. What I am getting at these scenes are not meant to be seen as the slightest bit sexy and anyone who thinks otherwise likely needs professional help. As for the teenage versions of them I do not think either them are seen frontally nude and I don't think this focus on sex as much as the earlier movie because I do not think the love scenes last anywhere near as long as the ones in the 1980's movie. In both this movie and the second book it is implied both sets of the main characters become romantically involved younger than either the original book or 1980's movie main character but a number of places have very different opinions on how old someone should before they can handle many things(ask me if you need any examples). Also people who live in an isolated environment would not likely know or possibly not agree with what one society considers appropriate especially if they have lived in the isolated environment since they were very young.
To any of you who think the nudity is supposed to be means innocence similar to Adam and Eve (I do not know about this movie or the second and third book that have little in common when this movie) in the original book and the 1980's movie this indeed the case. I know this to be true because when I first saw the 1980's movie I noticed a number of similarities between it and The Garden of Eden story (if you want examples just ask me) I found a site says this was deliberately done by the author. I do not remember much else about the site or even know if it still exists.
I don't care if you agree with anything I have said but if you don't agree please do not criticize it or me. Finally I am sorry if any of this wordy or if any of the paragraphs or sentences are worded unusually but I have always had trouble with that kind of thing.
Get off the soapbox already. TMI and it's getting old.
I'd like to stuff you in an art gallery with some classic nudes for a few hours and watch you lecture 400-year old dead people.
You may have noticed that most of her topless scenes she had her back turned to the camera, or her hair covering her breast!

Why must children be shielded from looking at the human body? Should they be taught that the human body something to be ashamed of? You feel comfortable looking at other animals naked but not your own kind?
