I haven't seen these, but doing an amazon search on what other viewers liked after they watched rage in harlem, I decided to see what they liked.
I found Ruby's Bucket of Blood, which is set in the early 1960s segregated south. (I think it has to do with an interracial relationship.)
Eve's Bayou has a storyline that moves backward in time to 1962 Louisiana. It's about a 10 year old girl who witnessed her womanizing father involved in something shocking.
Once Upon a Time When We Were Colored is set in 1940s Mississippi. It's about fighting racism and acheiving political/civil rights.
The Josephine Baker Story
For the Love of Ivy, 1968, Sidney Poitier
Idlewild, is a musical set in 1920s
Hoodlum, set in the 1930s New York (also directed by Bill Duke)
Devil in a Blue Dress, set in the 1940s
Well, that should be a good starting point. Like I said, I haven't seen any of these, so all of them could be real losers, who knows... But maybe you'll find one or two in there that you like.
