Im surprised to find this board empty. This was a pretty good movie with some great stars. Forest Whitaker, Robin Givens, Gregory Hines. The movie was hilarious. Whitaker does great comedy. I wish he'd done a little more.
Six months after your post and finally someone responds.... I just saw this movie on tv, with stupid dubbed lines to cover the swear words. I wish they would have just ran it normally. It's a great movie! I can't believe I never saw it before.
I never really liked Robin Givens because I always thought she lied to Mike Tyson about being pregnant to get him to marry her, then faked the miscarriage. Oh well, that's hollyweird.
Forrest Whitaker is a genius! He's absolutely fantastic in this film. Everything about his performance was perfect.
I need to go rent this so I can see the whole thing like it's supposed to be seen. One half hearted tv viewing is not doing it justice.
Tracylynns, I hope you finally saw the film on home video as it should be seen. I also suggest folks read the book the picture is based on (sometimes called FOR LOVE OF IMABELLE). The movie just uses the bare bones of the book and shifts emphasis away from Jackson and toward Goldy. In the book, they are twins, and Goldy spends the entire book in a nun's habit and wearing a gray wig.
This is by far my favorite Forest Whittaker movie. He played every bit to perfection. When Givens wakes up the next morning and he's sitting in the chair, the look on his face is absolutely priceless. He already knows he is completely powerless against this woman. Never has a man appeared so conflicted. Poor dude never stood a chance. lol
