Uggh
This movie is so cringe worthly lol. Very good story line, but Babs is sooooo cheesy :o)
shareYa know, I haven't watched this movie in about 10 years even though it's one of my favs. After seeing it again tonight for the first time since then, I have to admit that I did laugh at the love scenes.
shareThe book, by Pat Conroy, a true son of the South who uses the Southern settings of his best stories so effectively in establishing literary mood and tone,is one of my all time favorites. The movie, however, was TERRIBLE and, at times, almost unrecognizable. While Nick Nolte was wonderful, Barbra completely ruined the southern tone of the story (which was so important to the story line) and turned it into a second rate Kosher New York middle-aged love-sick chick flick.
It was like ordering hot biscuits and cornbread and getting matzo instead! instead The love scenes were so embarassing to sit through. I suppose she decided to completely omit the character of the older brother (whose character was so pivital to the book) so that she could place importance on what happened in New York City and, thus, HERSELF. If you have never read the book, you should do so this summer. What a treasure!---but you wouldn't know it from this movie. Pat Conroy must have been star-struck to let someone butcher his work this way. BS should stick to the music which she does so very well, and never direct herself again.
Barbra was amazing!!!
