question about the rape scene

On another board, there is an issue about one of the child characters getting raped. Everyone is shouting about pedifilia on movies. I think the rape scene in this movies sounds worse than the other movie, but their are tons of people who are freaking out over it. Now I realize that the other movie isn't out yet, but I think they are over reacting a bit. My feeling is that if the rape scene is for a specific purpose, and it's directed tactfully, then there shouldn't be an issue. What do you think?

I agree. If is done right, it shouldn't be a problem. I think that Barbra directed it wonderfully. She also took great care while filming that the kids that played the younger versions of the characters were nowhere near where they were filming it. She didn't want to expose them to that.

When this movie went to cable, the rapes scenes were cut.

Wait, how could the 'younger versions of the characters' NOT have been around during the rape scene? They only show Savannah's lower legs, so that's understandable. But the boy who plays Tom has a guy holding a knife to him, slicing the back of his pants open, and has is bent over a table screaming in agony. How could the child act all that without being anywhere near when they were filming it?

i think she's talking about the youngest versions of tom, savannah, and luke in the movie..the kids in the scene where the Wingo siblings jumped into the lake..

Sorry I can't agree with that, rape is real on women and children, I vomited after seeing that film and I had nightmares of men breaking into my home and raping my mother, my sisters and myself. When I saw The Accused, I got sick again. I am sorry but I cannot handle rape scenes in movies, I saw Sleepers and that one didn't show the rape scene. Just showed the boys being brought in then distant echo screaming and the narrator speaking. I would be content with that kind of scene then the others.

I didn't need to know that it was based on a book but thank you for telling me anyways, not that I will be reading it anyways.
