Musical Score

The score for this film actually makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up. The themes are beautiful, lush and poignant within the context of who the characters are and where their stories go. I could listen to it over and over...and I do. It's brilliant not because I say so, but because it moves me.

I know it is total mesh with the film. You can get the soundtrack easily and if you like this try the Mirror has Two Faces soundtrack. Very different but a good score nonetheless.

AND GODDAMM*T THE SUN DOES NOT SPIT!

Interesting; I hate the score, I think it's way too lush and sweet;
Barry's score (the whole thing is floating around out there) is wonderful, as was his excised score for The Horse Whisperer....

Barry's Prince of Tides score can only be found as a bootleg; However, the whole of Barry's Horse Whisperer score was released as "The Beyondness of Things":

Yes, lush, sweet, inappropriate and far too loud. The scene under the, admittedly great, sax playing was drowned out, we ran it through three times and still could not work out what they were saying.

An interesting comparison is with The Bridges of Madison County, which we watched a couple of night later. Both star directed, both really very good, with not dissimilar themes, but very different approaches to music. BMC only uses ambient music - what's on the radio, and sparingly. Did someone on the Prince of Tides team panic late in the day?

This is my favourite soundtrack album ever! The music moves me, it GETS to me.
I almost play it every night while falling asleep. It makes me feel at peace.
I would go as far as saying that this movie and the music made me a better person. Everytning about The prince of Tides changed my life in a positve way!

It's exquisite - sweeping, evocative...maybe my favourite James Newton Howard score ever.
