Vaseline on the camera and soft light for Babs

I know that Streisand only allows herself to be filmed on her left side of her face in films, but I forgot how hazy and soft all of her "closeups" are of her in this film until I saw the film again on TV last night. I swear vaseline was rubbed on the camera lens before they could film her. Everyone else looks normal in the film but she has a totally different light and focus on her shots. Granted, it's her film she can do what she wants, but it's funny.

Also, he tells her she is "beautiful" like 10 times in the film, and most of the time the camera isn't on him when he says it. It's like they added it in post-production, had him dub the lines in to insert it throughout film.

Beauty is usually a strong motif in Streisand's films. Funny Girl, The Way We Were, The Prince of Tides, and The Mirror Has Two Faces (and, probably, more) all make points about the desire to be beautiful. At first, I saw this as an overstated theme in her work, but, after further contemplation, I've grown to enjoy the consistency. I like that she has made a strong stance to support women that are not traditionally beautiful.

She wants to look her best hence why she directs herself so often!

I saw this for the first time only a few years ago. I loved it... and it had George Carlin too!

Rebuild the WTC exactly as before and keep old movies accurate!

You stay classy, San Diego.

Yep, it's distracting at times how totally different she looks than the rest of the cast.

And AMEN to the comment about Barbra the director needing it said that her character must be referred to as beautiful at least ten times in a movie. She did that in Mirror has Two Faces too. It gets obnoxious. It always seemed that Madonna in her movies was constantly being called beautiful, just so the audience might actually buy it too. When your character needs to be told how beautiful she is in a movie umpteen times, chances are they aren't that beautiful.

It is so annoying how self-absorbed and egotistical BS is. The movie version was basically just a vehicle for her. Loved the book, hated the movie.
