Jason Gould cast as a Jock?

I DON'T THINK SO!

Not to mention he was 25 at the time, while the role called for a high-schooler.

"Don't call me 'honey', mac."
"Don't call me 'mac'... HONEY!"

reply

You mean they cast an actor in a role where they're playing a character younger than they actually are??????? Oh, the humanity!!!

reply

It does happen a lot but, in this film, it didn't work. Gould looked at least 23 to 25. He didn't pass as a high school kid.

reply

I dont think the issue is age here... casting him as a jock is the issue!!

I'm surprised he was that old! I thought he looked like a teen!

What we have here is failure to communicate!

He wasn't cast as a jock, he was cast as a wannabe. And with the personal training he received from Nolte's character he learned to play football.

I didn't think he was a high-schooler, I believe he was getting on the train to go back to college.

You're also forgetting the nepotism factor - Jason is actually Streisand's son in real life (Elliot Gould is his dad).

You're missing the point. He told Tom that he'd washed out and that the other players laughed at him. Tom, being a football coach, drilled him into shape. Hardly the most unrealistic scenario to imagine.

Not to mention he was 25 at the time, while the role called for a high-schooler.

As far as the age thing goes, Stacey Dash played a teenager on the TV Series "Clueless" into her early thirties. Not a big deal either.

For me the whole role worked.

Bernard was rebelling against his father by dabbling into something his father highly disapproved of (playing football). He was attending a prep school and might have been in his last year.

I completely bought him as a teenager and was surprised to learn he was 25 at the time. Some people hold onto their baby faces for a long time and it's not unusual for actors near or even past 30 to play teenagers.

Gould replaced Chris Odonnell.

Streisand said the author saw Jason and said, " Thats Bernard!"

Odonnell was let go...

reply

Jason Gould was terrible in that role. Pat Conroy was smitten with Streisand during the filming.

reply

I agree. Have you seen the special feature of them dancing?
