Worth a look?

I got interested in this movie because of the cast and after seeing the trailer, I thought "Hey, this doesn't look too bad".

The thing is, I am not much of a fan of Chris Columbus' films, so I am not really sure about checking it out.

So would you recommend it to me?

reply

I sure would. It's definitely worth a look especially for John Candys lovable performance.

reply

I agree that this movie is worth checking out for one of John Candy's best performances but for an outstanding performance by Hollywood legend Maureen O"Hara in her first film in 20-odd years.

I'd never heard of this movie, until I learned it was one of my mom's latter-day favorites, because of O'Hara: it must've been the first movie she ever owned on tape. During one of our last visits, we watched it together.

Not a great movie (O'Hara, Quinn roles just too stereotyped for me), but Candy's was further proof that comics & comic actors (Berle, Buttons, Rickles) do know drama.

HI, OK I UNDERSTAND THIS MOVIE WAS WITH JOHN CANDY, YET I REMEMBER ANOTHER MOVIE CALLED ONLY THE LONEY BUT WITH A DIFFERENT CAST? AM I WRONG? I HAVE NEVER GOT AN ANSWER TO THIS QUESTION SO I HOPE YOU CAN HELP ME. THANKS

reply

This is defantly worth a watch, it's a nice little gem with an outstanding performance by Candy.

As far as the question about another movie called "Only the Lonely", I've searched the IMdb for the that title, but nothing except this one came up, in addition of an Indian and an Danish movie who had the title as English title.

Maybe you are thinking of the song by Roy Orbison?

I don't patronize bunny rabbits!!

reply

Yes, the film is worth a look. When Candy died, news reports pointed to this film as Candy coming into his own as a dramatic actor.
