why did Patrick want Dan and Rose to move to Florida?

I've never understood the reason why Patrick wanted Dan and Rose to wind up in Florida.

I'm not really sure: at one point he mentions he "needs an investment" so maybe the plan was he was going to buy the condo for Rose, let her live there as a tenant (or maybe for free) and then sell it for a big profit when she (for whatever reason) stopped living there, but the way that line was delivered in the context of the movie it seemed like he was just pulling that reasoning out of his butt to get Rose to do it.

Certainly the "status quo" did not appear to be any big burden on Patrick and family: they could see Rose as often, or as little, as they wanted, since Danny was stuck "taking care" of her most of the time. It wasn't like she was hanging around their basement rec room five days a week.

I suppose some 'unspoken' reason was that Patrick did not want to be in any position to have to assume any responsibility for taking care of Rose if she did become dependent on "assisted living" and assumed that would all fall on Danny if he was living down in Florida along with her.

Danny confronts his brother in the tux shop and says that Patrick wants Danny not to get married so he and Rose will move to Florida and Patrick will not feel guilty for neglecting his own mother.

I think too it was the classic guilt trip for Danny because of the stereotypical dysfunctional family dynamic that is present in some Irish-Catholic families (not to criticize religion or anything). Patrick did not want to be stuck taking care of their mother if Danny and Theresa got married, and Rose was basically running Danny's life. He stood up to his brother when he punched him in the tuxedo shop. Theresa told him to be his
"own man" and "stop letting her run your life." He had a lot of inner conflicts he had to confront I think. It was also the co-dependency factor that played a role.
