John Candy in drag, deformed twin adult-babies, but Digital Underground?

I was somehow able to hold my suspension of disbelief up until Digital Underground showed up. Seriously, why were they in this movie? All of the goofy sets and atmosphere made this movie pretty cool up until they showed up and did a random musical number. At that point it felt like the movie just gave up on itself.

I never thought that, although it did kind of move away from the Horror and Scare aspect, of course now that I think about it, though I've seen the movie more than a dozen times, it does kind of hurry the movie, but still, I love the movie anyway.

Well I just figured they got busted on the way to/from atlantic city, same goes for the baldwin group, they were just more willing to cooperate

It's the nineties? Just a guess.

The Humpty Dance song was huge.
Maybe Aykroyd liked the song and Humpty's comedic appearance and decided to add them in?
Is there a connection between Warner Bros who released the movie and DI's record label?
That could be another reason.
Maybe he had to promote one of their acts in exchange for getting money to do this really offbeat film?
Just guesses.

MC Hammer did The Addams Family - what's the problem?

When I saw this as a (non-American) kid, I didn't even know Digital Underground was an actual music group. I thought they only existed as characters in this movie, which made their appearance even more inexplicable to me.

Having re-watched the movie years later, I still find their little song number pretty out of place, but at least now I understand it in the sense of just having a musical guest appearance, kinda like Vanilla Ice in the Turtles sequel.
