Question about Savage in the bathroom

When Savage is about to kill Jane in the shower, he stops because he's listening to her sing. It looks as if he's almost about to cry and then starts singing along. I found this scene odd and still can't figure out why he reacted the way he did. Any thoughts?

because it's considered funny when men like barbra streisand and get emotional over songs like "the way we were". since Savage is a killer, it makes it funny to see a sensitive side in him.

Well, he is supposed to be a killer and he stops and gets so involved in Jane singing that he starts singing as well, which gives him away. The Way We Were song is supposed to be sad, which is why he was touched.
