Joyce's son not James'?? Possible Spoiler

I first saw Mortal Thoughts years ago and was excited when it aired and I was able to record it to my DVR.

While watching (and rewatching, gotta love rewind) last night, James said (during the confrontation regarding Joyce missing her second appointment for the abortion), "You better take care of this or we're gonna have another little kid running around here that ain't mine."

So . . . Joyce cheated on James? Twice? Keep in mind I'm slowly making it through the movie have yet to watch it all the way through.

Any thoughts?

James was abusive, so he could just have been making false accusations against Joyce in order to upset her. I didn't get the impression that Joyce had been seeing anyone else.

No, he said "We'll have another little baby around here that ain't mine" I just watched it last night. He was an abusive, controlling *beep* and it was just one more way to verbally abuse Joyce.

The DVD says "...another baby [around here] in eight months." in the subtitles.

I think that James is the father. In both cases. Joyce was supposed to have a love/hate relationship with him-but more love than hate. She put up with all of his faults, and "in her mind, Joyce thought he was a good catch" as per Cynthia.

Think of what a complete jerk low-life James was. For a man to deny being the father of his child-is the ultimate in scum. The jerks father a baby-then say "That's not MINE! You're a SL*T!" so they then become "the victim," and have an excuse to treat the mother any way they want, and to completely absolve themselves of any care, time, attention-or child care payments. Stupid? Abusive? Lazy? Mindless? Yes. Unfortunately, it happens every day.

It just was a line to show what a total lowlife he was.

Joyce DID love James. So much...she actually lost HER OWN mind after he was killed. James was definitely the father of both the baby and the unborn baby...he just would rather have spent his time drinking, doing drugs, shooting hoops, being unemployed, and sponging off of his wife. He wanted NO responsibilites.
