hotel in santa barbara

Does any one know the actual hotel when Steve martin went to santa barbara?

It's called Bacara, and is right on the coast just north of SB. It's actually a resort, the URL is bacararesort.com

Actually, "El Polo Del Mar" was a beach side mansion on the south side of Long Beach. The interiors was shot on makeshift stages built at the now demolished Ambassador Hotel.

Mea Culpa. When I saw Bacara Resort on Travel Channel's "Great Hotels" some time ago, I noticed that the entrance of the hotel looked just like the so-wonderfully-named hotel I remembered from "L.A. Story." I was so sure that I emailed the resort today, only to learn that it wasn't even built until 2000! Maybe the architect liked the movie :o)

But I'm left with the question of what scene was filmed in Santa Barbara? It's listed in the IMDb location list, but I don't recall noticing any other scene that looked like any place I've ever seen in SB.

As far as I know, none of the scenes in the film were shot in Santa Barbara. I've been doing a lot of work lately WRT the locations used in the movie and Santa Barbara has never come up.

Using the south Long Beach tip - I found the building. Yo see it, go to Google Earth and put in "37th place long beach, ca". Zoom all the way in and you will clearly see the driveway, courtyard and pool.
