Should have been Candy.
John Candy would have been perfect.
sharethat is so odd because i was thinking the same thing as i watched this. in fact a few times, i expected to see John Candy right there on screen but it wasnt so.
shareI just got into a huge argument with my girlfriend over whether it was John Candy or John Goodman, so I went to good old omdb to prove I was right and it failed me miserably!
I'm sure I can picture candy hanging out the sun roof of a limo driving through Las Vegas, I did see it about 12 years ago though...
My girlfriend rekons she knew it was him because she could picture John Goodman bowling.
... He was perfect, I thought.
"Women remember, Steve - it's like they've got minds of their own!"
Hello,
Can anyone help find out what palace or mansion King Ralph was film in? It was also used in the movie "Lady Chetterly's Lover".
Thanks!
I agree John Goodman was perfect for this part, I don't really see Candy in this film god rest his soul.
sharecandy goes bowling in uncle buck
shareI meant to say that I couldn't really see Candy playing that character. Goodman I think was perfect for the role, try to imagine anyone else you may get some ok's here and there but Candy or anyone else would not have fit for the film.
Candy did have some kick ass movies Uncle Buck was cool, I love the great outdoors that one is just great, and Armed and Dangerous was awsome as well.
I thought John Goodman was good is this movie, but John Candy would have been good as well.
shareGoodman was great. Candy would have been okay, but John Belushi would have been perfect for this if he were alive.
shareI disagree. I think that Goodman was perfect. It wouldn't be King Ralph with Goodman.

Do you mean 'without' Goodman, who WAS indeed brilliant?

By the early 90's Candy was really tired of playing these kind of roles and he wanted to take his career in a different direction.

It'd be kinda hard, unless he wanted to play supporting roles. Look @ Ron Perlman. Brilliant actor, but only plays humans, as supporting characters.

Candy would have been good, and Goodman was fine in the role, but imagine what Rodney Dangerfield could have done with the part! He would have played it more loudly than Goodman, but that's what the film needed. It was too low key for me.
shareDangerfield is hilarious in the right setting(ex: Back to School, Caddyshack, etc) but I don't think he would have been as convincingly sympathetic as Ralph needed to be. With Goodman, the performance came off as, "all right, the guy's crass, but he's human, he's honest about who his is, and he means well." With Dangerfield, I think he would have either been an *beep* to everyone, and/or everything would have been a joke to him, which wouldn't have suited the tone of the movie.
share"John Candy would have been perfect."
Well the fact is that John Goodman WAS perfect, and I dont think anybody else would have been better. Even the late great John Candy wouldnt have been any better than Goodman.
Candy was too nice and personable.
Goodman was just the right. Not too nice, not too much of a dickhead.
Jim Belushi would have been too much of a dickhead.
It would have been entertaining, but I wonder if the scene where he delivers the speech would have been as convincing with Candy delivering it. Maybe, but I've seen it so many times that all I can picture is Goodman.
