big budget remake

I know this was a tv movie but I would love to see this remade with a decent budget.

I disagree. I read Harry MacLean's book and found this to be a very faithful and engaging interpretation. Brian Dennehey and Marcia Gay Harden's performances are excellent and hit the mark (if you are familiar with their characters from the book). This is a true gem - a TV-movie of big-screen quality.

Yeah sometimes cheaper is better, especially when touching on real life like this. Don't believe me, watch the version of Walking Tall with Joe Don Baker and then the one with The Rock.

Curious, was it that it was low budget or was it that the movie was just made in a different time (not sure when you guys watched this one for the first time)? I agree that in this case, the movie was true to the story (which happened to be an excellent book) and had terrific actors, as well, whose careers have stayed the course or gotten even better.

Thanks in advance for answering.

I agree with You guys, but this movie is incredibly hard to find. A big budget remake would make the story known to a wider audience.

I just ordered it from Amazon.

For anybody who hasn't read the book, the incident happened in Skidmore, Missouri on July 10, 1981. On a Friday morning on Main Street in front of 47 witnesses.

None of whom say anything.

Why in the heck do you think this story needs to be a big budget movie? Do you wanna see Hollywood type car chases/explosions and stunts and CGI? Do you wanna see Tom Cruise or Will Smith play Len Rowan with Mila Kunis or Kirsten Stewart playing Adina?!!

I just can't understand this insatiable thirst for Hollywood tricks! This is a simple story, done with not a big budget, but simply good acting, which Dennehy, Cooper, Leachman, and Harden provide plenty of.

reply

Yes, yes and yes.

I know this is an old post but I had to reply that you are absolutely correct. The problem with big budget movies is that they fall in love with special effects while trying to get big name actors who are going for an award instead of just telling a story.

reply

Hope not, Hollywood will destroy the original story by adding a lot of fiction and cheesy special effects.
