Question about a quote


After Darwin Mayflower's limousine fell into the ravine carrying Tommy Five-Tone and George Kaplan with it. Darwin calls to Eddie "Friend of your's?" and Eddie replies "DEAD!"
I don't understand what Eddie meant.
Was it
1. "Tommy's my friend, and he's now dead, thanks to you!"
or
2. "You're dead for this, Darwin Mayflower!"

I think its actually to do with a monkey. if you look at the guys face whgen he lands, hes got a picture of a monkey on him. This made sense until the film cut out scenes shot and references to Hawk's pet monkey, who was, in fact "dead"
