I think this movie is worth seeing even if you're not familiar with the highlander concept. It's an exciting fantasy action movie. In the movies you actually see the heads being choped of, which never happends in Highlander the TV-series. The movie reminds me of Total Recall, Bladerunner, Terminator. Michael Ironside is a cunning bad guy, maybe overacting a bit, there's lots of cliché oneliners comming out of his mouth though.

The sets are somewhat reminiscent of Tim Burton's Batman, too.

I think the guy with his eyes popping out of his head on the train, and the red sky, helps with the Total Recall comparison :) But yeah, it is rather reminiscent of that kind of post apocalyptic/hell on earth kind of movie. Thinking of that, the movie's a bit better in my book already :)
