Why wasn't this included on the original or Redux DVDs?
Anyone know?

Well, it is it's own film clocking in at over an hour-and-a-half. It was a theatrical feature which merits its own dvd release. I still have it on VHS. Why would they bundle it?

It wasn't included on any earlier DVD release because Francis Ford Coppola feels that it is, in many ways, NOT an accurate depiction of what went on during filming, and he does not approve of many of the things said throughout the documentary.
The ONLY reasons he released it on DVD were because he needed a way to put that bonus documentary promoting Youth Without Youth on DVD, and because with DVD he could create a commentary to clear up discrepancies, and tell the story his way via the commentary.
they wanted more money evidence how they keep releasing the movie. and now the dossier edition didnt even have it. i broke down and bought it (since i had never seen it) and im sure others did the same.
but your right, no reason it wasnt on the complete dossier

It may be an issue of who owns the rights. Showtime maybe?
shareCoppola just didn't want to release it. He doesn't like the way he's portrayed in the film and he's very open about that, he flat-out says so on the commentary.
However, at the time of the release he was able to get that "Youth Without Youth" documentary on there so it seems as if the ability to promote his new movie was a bigger factor than any embarassment he was feeling over his portrayal.

They're still married.
She didn't direct the movie though. She shot all the footage on the set but when you're dealing with a director on a documentary the director is essentially the person that shapes the footage into what it becomes and that wasn't Eleanor Coppola, the documentary was assembled by directors Fax Bahr and George Hickenlooper.
If Coppola was unhappy with anyone it was them.
But like I said, he was able to get this DVD out by itself, charge an extra $20 for it and get a new documentary (this time fully directed by Eleanor) included that would promote his latest movie "Youth Without Youth" so you can see how any personal objections he had went out the window when he saw the opportunity to make more money, promote his new film and give his wife another gig.
But yeah, he talks about his concerns with the documentary on the commentary.
