Can someone tell me, what exactly happened to frank? I know they killed him, but what happened to the body? I got the impression that they ate him? But that doesn't sound plausible. Is that what happened?

So they did to him what they'd do with a dead pig, they cut the meat off the bones, boiled it and then placed it on the barbecue, cooked it, and served it up for the policemen who came to investigate his disappearance. In the book, many years after his death and the cafe closed, some people were checking around the property where it used to be and they found Frank Bennet's head in a storage shack where they'd discarded the meat bones and stuff.
