Did this inspire the movie The World Unseen?

It's a film about two women in India a little after World War II when the country was becoming independent. One women is English/white, and another is Indian. The India woman owns a cafe and dresses and acts masculine and helps the undesirables in the community. The English woman's husband owns a general store, but is also some kind of public official and is away a lot, so the wife has to take care of the business. She's unhappy, and ends up going to the cafe owned by the Indian woman. They become close, have adventures, the husband doesn't like it.

There are a lot of similarities in the two stories, but the Wolrd Unseen doesn't make any mention of being inspired by this and I wanted to know if anyone had seen that film or heard about Fried Green Tomatoes being a source.
