"I thought about Ruth...

She always said there was a separate God for children."

What does that mean? I never really grasped what the meaning behind that line was.

Also, separate God but same Heaven? She says a moment later, "Sometimes I can't wait to get to Heaven to see him again".

I asked that too, I never really got it, and I know somebody explained it once but I forgot it.

Meh, I think it just meant that God tends to look after kids especially. It's the south, they have colorful turns of phrase.

It's a metaphor. Buddy Sr. died when the train hit him, but Buddy Jr. just lost an arm. Albert should've only lived five years, but he lived til he was 30, with the mind of a child. It means children aren't treated or judged as harshly as adults, and have somebody special looking out for them. I'm from Mississippi/Louisiana and this movie/book is the only time I've ever heard that saying. Maybe it was a thing around WWI that got phased out.
