Question about Dutch...

I am sorry, I missed the first half hour or so of this movie so I'm not sure if this was answered then. Was Dutch wealthy? When they were on their way back home they drove by a factory which had the name on it, Dutch Chocolate. Also, who walks around with several hundred dollar bills in their pocket. I was confused about this. Also, at the end when the black family from the shelter dropped them off at Doyle's moms, Dutch told them to stop by the factory and he would see if he could find some work for them.

Can someone help me out here?

Actually they drove past a construction site and the sign said "Dutch Dooley Construction." They never flat out say anything about it but Doyle assumes he is not-so-well-off but like you said he has a few hundred dollars in his wallet. Plus the fact that owning your own construction company can be pretty prosperous.

I think *beep* just happens, but that's just me.

Yeah and the building that's going up isn't a 7-11. I'd say it was a good size company.

Well, Dutch did tell Doyle that he made a good living and earned more money than the kid's father gave his mother. Maybe Dutch didn't want to brag about how prosperous he was. If so, I liked the way he put up with Doyle's dismissive attitude because Dutch was "working class".

He says in the beginning that he makes more than Doyle's mom gets from the divorce. He also hands the truck driver a few hundred dollars to fix up the truck after the accident and also gave him his card if he needed more. I'd say yes Dutch has money but doesn't let it change who he is, he's just a regular guy who happens to have money.
