What the hell is this?

Hey guys, was it just me or were you confused as to where Dutch was cooking dinner for Natalie when Dutch is convincing Natalie to let him pick up Doyle. At first it looks like their home kitchen, then it's a restaurant? What gives?

reply

That had confused me at once, But then i understood that he was making dinner but they probably then decided to eat at a resturant because Dutch was a butcher.

About 90 minutes into the movie (just before arriving at Doyle's mother's home) Doyle, Dutch, and the poor family (who gives them a ride) pass by a construction site with a sign saying "Dutch Dooley Construction".

I don't think dutch is a butcher - at least not as a vocation.

reply

I noticed that also, but when i said butcher i meant he wasn't good at making meals and with the meat he butchered it.

I thought it was a Joke and played well

i think i'm a banana tree!!! oh dear

Yes, it was totally meant to be a joke. Dutch was shown prepping dinner before cutting to a shot of the timer next to the stove. After that it cuts to a close-up of Doyle's mother who says, "Smells good." Then, the visual punchline. The camera cuts to a wider shot showing them sitting in a restaurant.

The whole point of the scene changing from the kitchen at home to the restaurant was the joke they were making in the film. Dutch is making dinner for Natalie and as the scene goes on it's obvious he doesn't know how to cook and is doing an awful job at it. He's just throwing everything into one pot. So we are to assume that the meal was so bad they decided to just go to a restaurant. I dunno, I always got the joke. I guess since they don't acknowledge Dutch's bad home-cooked meal at all in the restaurant, if you're not paying attention you could miss it I suppose.

reply

LOL but I thought his meal looked delicious.

And I'm crazy, but you like it! Loca, loca, loca...

reply

Even as a kid at the theatre, I got the joke. Thought it was funny.
