Why is the DVD so hard to find?

I was looking to pick up a copy of this movie to add to my John Hughes' collection. However, it is nearly impossible to find. When I checked on amazon.com, I was shocked to see used copies going for 25 bucks a piece. That is just crazy. Why is this DVD so rare? I hate to do it, but I may have to just pick it up on VHS instead. Anyone have any advice for where I could find this movie on DVD reasonably priced?

I found it on Ebay, quite reasonably priced.

Live well. Laugh often. Love much.

the best place to find it is a place that sells used DVDs like FYE(formerly known as Wherehouse). Sometimes people bring in dvds to sell back and they dont know how rare the item they are selling is really worth. I bought Dutch today for $4.20.

reply

Yeah it is hard to find. I got it at amazon about eight weeks ago before they sold out.

I found a vhs copy of Dutch last year at a video rental store that was closing forever and i paid $5.00 for it so if Dutch is hard to find on dvd there are vhs copies of Dutch out there

Thank everyone for your advice. I was able to find a used VHS copy of Dutch at a flea market for only a buck! Although I would rather it on DVD, the VHS will have to do for now. By the way, I just looked up the price of the DVD on Amazon. Used DVD copies are now starting at over 35 dollars a piece! That is just nuts.

Mfb, Most of those Anchor Bay dvds never last around too long but i bet you may be able to still find a copy of this on DVD at Suncoast for $9.99 in the comedy section.

I remember seeing it at Best Buy a few years ago for $10. I said "oh cool" and kept going. That's always the case and then they go oop. I still have it on vhs recorded from HBO . Crappy copy of it though. I remember the 2 disc supergirl dvd was at kmart for $5 before it went oop. Then I saw copies for $50 on ebay. Thats an anchor bay release too. Just got the Howard the Duck special edition, I got a feeling that might go out of print. It's always the cult movies it seems.

I just DVD'd it off FMC

I have the DVD, finally got around to seeing this movie.

It was disappointing, not the movie, but just how simple the DVD menu and the options it had. No subtitles, no audio tracks, you might as well just get a VHS of this film and convert it to DVD. Thats exactly what the DVD version is.

Great film, saw it yesterday. It's been years since I saw this.

I bought it from FYE about a year ago for 10 bucks. Well worth it.

get it off of torrents. If movie company wont rls it to public, screw em. Get it from torrents.

Now it is new starting at almost 70 bucks... rediculous! I like the movie, but not that much. Those people are crazy and don't deserve to sell a DVD like this for that price.

reply

Exactly. It is insane that the movie is going for so much money.. People need to push Fox to re-release this DVD. Then you will see this price go down quickly. I remember the same thing happened with Mrs. Doubtfire. The DVD was rare and it was going for over 50 bucks on sites like ebay and amazon. Fox then released a special edition of the movie and all the prices fell almost overnight. I would encourage people not to give into the high prices and instead push Fox to re-release Dutch on DVD.

I found it for 17 bucks. I'm good. :)

Can I ask where did you find it at?

reply

I found it on ebay.

reply

Lucky you. I've been searching ebay without any luck finding it that cheap. Did your 17 include shipping?

reply

I think it came out to about 21 or so with shipping... I can't remember exactly.

Wow, after reading these posts, I consider myself really lucky that I still have my VHS copy that I bought back in the early 90's! It's still in great shape too!

I still remember that episode of Married With Children when Al went to the video store and they were giving copies away free, but no one wanted one.

I know this is 2 years later but I found this thread because I saw it as a kid and decided to find out if I could find it. I have found it. You can watch it streaming on Netflix currently. Funny though the DVD is starting at $27.49. I also found the bluray is coming out in January.

Awesome. My VHS copy will have to do until the Blu-ray comes out. Unfortunately for titles like this, the quality probably won't be much better on BLU though.
