Russell Brand will utterly destroy this movie as Fred

Russell Brand will destroy this movie as Drop Dead Fred. First of all Russell isn't funny at all, and he is NOT child friendly. I know I know DDF wasn't exactly a kids movie BUT his relationship to young Lizzy as well as grown up elizabeth is a really important part of the film the closeness they share and the love and bond they have, and I just don't see a child being that comfortable around him period. Rik Mayall was kind of strange and loud yes, but there was a very lovable quality he brought to Fred that made you adore him. I'm sorry but Russell Brand does not have that quality at all. I just can't see him playing DDF, they picked Russell because he is british and he's a nut case that is all. I wish the powers that be would put more thought into it, instead of saying " he's british so lets cast him!" A DDF remake could be really good but they need an actor like Rik who can bring the crazy with the kind, the strange with the sweet, and the loony with the loving. Russell brand would ruin it, because all he knows is shock "humor" ( i mean the guy once smashed a squirrel onstage with a sledge hammer because he thought is was funny) I just don't think he could make a well rounded DDF like Rik did. Rik IS Drop Dead Fred, and his are hard red leather boots to fill, but i believe someone could do it justice just not Russell.

don't dream it, BE it! - rocky horror picture show

I agree. I'm not sure who finds him funny. He ruined the Arthur remake. Disney put him in that Adam Sandler movie a while back and he was horrible. Maybe I just don't get it.

I agree. I liked this film although, I have to admit, it could've been better and maybe a remake is a good idea. But not with this *beep* in the role. I mean seriously, RUSSEL BRAND is an appealing image for kids?! If you're going to do it right, pick someone with energy AND someone who was believable enough to play the role. If I had to "recast" I would certainly TRY Rik Mayall again but if he didn't work out (I mean, seriously, guys, he's in his 60's...that would be creepy) I would say someone like Jim Carrey, Niel Patrick Harris, etc. Both of those performers have proven that they are hyperactive, they can be both funny AND annoying and they have both performed in roles for both kids and adults.

What are your thoughts?

Wtf did you get the idea he was in his 60s from? Unfortunately he died on Monday and he was 56. Sad news indeed

reply

He's a rich guy with a funny accent. That is what he has going for him.

they're remaking it? Why? it's not dated or anything. I have no idea why Hollywood is obsessed with remaking movies or making sequels to movies that don't need it

reply

Who said anything about a remake?

reply

I've seen doodly squat about a remake so it was likely another time wasting rumor.

reply

Remake? No! Rik Mayall and Phoebe Cates were perfect!

Get me a bromide! And put some gin in it!

You can't ever replace Rik Mayall.

The Russell Brand remake rumour was posted on here back in 2009.

5 years later on its clearly not going to happen.

reply

They cancelled it after the failure of ARTHUR. And it might have had to do with ROCK OF AGES underperforming.

PÏSS OFF, RUSSEL

You know who'd make an amazing Fred if they ever did a remake??? Andrew Garfield!!! Right?
