horror elements?

Which parts did you find creepy? I first saw this film when I was 7 years old and have loved it ever since but I can't really remember any creepy/horror elements!

I suppose the end was a bit surreal; the twisted tree on the stairs, Marsha Mason disappearing into flames...went a little bit Twin Peaks.

The scene when (child) Elizabeth is lying in bed and Fred's hand comes out from behind her pillow and pats her head used to frighten me. Also the Jack-in-the-box used to creep me out.

No, not at all. I found the whole films as a kid fun as hell. Which parts scared you?

I've always liked the film but I used to be scared of some parts as a kid
- the music box winding all by itself
- the part where Fred's arms come from under Lizzies pillow and slap her on the head
- Fred getting his head stuck in the fridge door
- when Lizzie takes the pills and Fred gets hurt/weak
- the end in that beetlejuice-esque place

I'm against a remake but I'd like to see a horror movie with a similar plot to DDF

I watched it with my 5 yo sister in law last night and me having seen this film so many times since its release I was only worried she might copy the swearing... But it suprised me she found a couple of bits scary...

-the flash back to child Lizzie with Fred's hand coming from behind the pillow and slapping her head

-the Fred dream world atmosphere
- the echoing voices
- and the fear of knowing the mega bitch was about to discover lizzies mud pie mess lol

But at the same time she realised they where not meant to be scary and she wanted to watch the whole movie again right away!
