English is not my first langauge... I want to ask why is this movie called "Dogfight"?
"Dogfight" is the nickname the Marines have for their party. Whoever brings the ugliest date wins a prize. (Personally, I don't really like Dogfight as the title for this movie, but...oh well. *shrugs*)

I asked this question because I'm searching the DVD with Chinese subtitle (well, I can't find the English "1st zone" DVD), and the translated title is UNACCEPTABLE! Much worse than the English name. So I wanna think of one myself :)

Well "dog" is some mean cruel term for an unattractive woman and the "fight" means the contest between the marines, you know betting and then who has the so called "ugliest" date.

That's part of it too. Also viscious fights are called dogfights (because dogs fight visciously) and when planes attack each other in combat it's call a dogfight. I don't know if the Marines featured in the movie were flyers. I doubt it.
