I think it is a good love story, I like how he can go away to vietnam and come back years later when everything is different and they still have the same love for eachother even though they never wrote. I love how it didn't matter that they hadn't kept in touch, because he had gone through something so horrible. Its such a great story.

Oh, I couldn't agree more. It's my favourite movie and it always makes me wonder how can it be so REAL; the plot and the tension between the two main characters is just so from the reality. It really is the story of innocence and pure love. The sweetest love story of all times, I agree. And the thing is it's not trying to be too clever - it's just a story of two young person, not too happy with themselves, who fall in love.

Anyone knows how I could get this on DVD from Europe?

I saw this movie a few weeks ago and it's now one of my all time favorite movies ever! Trying to find it somewhere on the internet so I can buy it! I swear in the last scene when they say hi to each other my heart always melts. It's amazing. Two great actors.

I want to think that it's a really good love story, but part of me is weary. Their relationship begins in a cruel way. River is basically abusive to her, but she forgives him and essentially "takes him back". In most cases, that kind of situation just sets itself up for further escalating abuse. When a relationship starts from a place of complete disrespect, that reality is always a lingering factor, and it's common that that dynamic will come back into play.

It's awfully damn close. Realistic and well told.
