There is a discussion on the River Message Board about which of his characters he's most like and surprisingly most people are saying Birdlace - i found this quite interesting - Birdlace is a great character but he is-
Politically incorrect Foul mouthed not too intelligent peer pressured Knows nothing really about music Playfully boyish - maybe a river trait
I just watched Dogfight for the first time this morning, I thought it was so good, River was great as always, he looked so gorgeous, I'm not too sure about the buzz cut, but I liked the way his hair was in the beginning and end. I think I can see River in Birdlace, I think it's how gentle Birdlace seems, I always think of peace and gentleness when I think of River, I see more, but I'm not sure what it is, (I don't know what I mean either) I love when Birdlace just swears basically non-stop and then get's told off. BTW did you see Brendan Frazier in Dogfight, he looked weird.
River will flow through my heart always... This road will never end...
OMG WHEN I SAW BRENDDAN FRAZIER IN DOGFIGHT, I HAD A HEART ATTACK! I was wondering "What the heck are you doing in this movie?" lol. He's a pretty good actor, I liked him alot in School Ties(but that movie went to Matt Damon)
ANYWAY BACK TO RIVER! I can see some River in Birdlace, during the times when he's soft spoken and gentle. River would definitely NOT take part in a dogfight, that's for sure! But I don't think out of all the characters he played, River was most like Birdlace. I'd have to say a nice mixture of Danny Pope from Running On Empty, Mike Waters from My Own Private Idaho, and, my personal favorite, Chris Chambers from Stand By Me. I think River also has some similarites to Charlie Fox in The Mosquito Coast.
"I use to tell people I wanted to change the world, and they thought 'this kid's really weird!'"
i would agree with most ppl here.. not like birdlace - probably most like his roles in 'stand by me', 'running on empty', and 'private idaho' at the various points in his life that he made those films..
I'm pretty sure River said himself that he was least like Birdlace out of all of the characters he has played. He said Birdlace was unable to think for himself etc., something to that affect. Anybody know if that was in the commentary in the movie? I can't remember where I heard it.
I woke up in the middle of the night to watch the ending after YEARS of not seeing it. I love it SO MUCH. The 3rd act is interesting because, as I have learned more about counter culture, seeing Riv walk among all those hippies as an outsider is the ultimate irony because River was in fact a hippie, raised by hippies, and so on.
