the Peter, Paul and Mary joke when Birdlace points to the chickens. Can someone explain it? It's probably something simple, but it went over my head.

I think it is simple, just that there were three ducks hanging in the window just as he mentioned Peter, Paul and Mary.

Rose wasn't actually a fan of Peter, Paul and Mary and said that real folk singers "write their own stuff." I don't think Birdlace really knows who they are, just that he's heard of them. They aren't really his thing. That scene did show that he wasn't really aware of that world and did make silly, goofy jokes about it all.
