slightly retarded, or autistic? Did anyone else get that kind of feel to her character?

No, I don't think she was mentally-challenged.
Just very shy and not sure of herself.

I think it's funny how she wanted to play musical bingo when Eddie was trying to get laid!

That was to show her naievity, (sorry can't spell it!!) and she was probably a bit scared too. I too thought it was incredibly sweet and exactly what I'd do if I had River Phoenix trying it on with me, see I'm ugly too, so I felt her character soo much, the film gave me hope hehe.

~ Yeah very well said Sparselykate. I totally agree. Never thought that anything was wrong with her mentally. Just that was unique and sort of shy, but not to shy in expressing her feelings. You could say Rose was mostly a dreamer. Or I would also say that she followed a beat to a different drummer.
