And I loved it! I never really watched any of River's later movies besides Indiana Jones. What a waste of talent!! He was just wonderful in this movie. Right after watching this through Netflix streaming watched another of his, "Running on Empty". Perfect in that movie too but I liked this one more. Next on my list I want to watch "My Own Private Idaho."... I agree with other posters: definitely reminded me of a young Leo Dicaprio. He could have been one of the Hollywood greats. So sad that drugs can steal people's lives like that.

This movie is about two people who are lost in their own ways - he with anger (we don't know why), and her (wanting to have a different life). But they find each other, and by the end of the movie, when he returns home, and they embrace, you know that she has been waiting for him, and he has come home. That's what I saw. This movie is so touching and so real. They are only 18. They are both unsophisticated and simple and need each other. I only watched it once but will definitely see it again. There are so many good scenes. My only question - who was the daughter at the end?
