Lili not a 'Dog'

I do not think that Lili was a "dog." I mean she is not a supermodel but she isn't ugly. She is cute. That is what I find disturbing about this movie...these average looking guys are taking these "dogs" to this "dogfight." But not one of the "B's" was so great looking.

River Phoenix was hot! And no, Lili is not a "dog". They really tried to make her look frumpy, but still have some of an attractive quality about her. I liked the fact that she was still the same when he came back from Vietnam. More realistic, I felt.

Nancy Savoca makes that point on the commentary that any girl who does not fit the social image of beauty is open to physical criticism therefor anyone can be considered a 'dog'. It is sort of interesting to look at how image obsessed culture is (big butts , stick figure, big breasts, little girl, natural, glam, lowrider jeans w/thong showing, who knows what's next) Also it seems her character wasn't ugly but not overtly sexual and she was shy.

Lili's looks are strange. Sometimes she looks lovely and others she looks hideous but that's a character actor's job I suppose and why I admire her so much.

I think the point of the movie is that no one is a 'dog'. Beauty is internal, but you have to be willing to look beneath the surface.
