Didn't know art dealers were paid so much!

Wow, Adrian sure seemed wealthy! That apartment alone would have cost a fortune!

"I'd say this cloud is Cumulo Nimbus."
"Didn't he discover America?"
"Penfold, shush."

I always thought maybe the art dealers in this movie had serious, SERIOUS amounts of inherited money, and they just took that job by choice, for the surroundings, the parties, the socializing at art galleries, etc. I, of course, have absolutely no idea how people in that world live, so, you should listen to my opinion! No, really! To sum up: I don't know.

Who's... laughing... NOW?!? BZZZZZZ (hack hack spurt spurt) HA HA HAAA BZZZZZ HA HA HAAA

I have always heard that the only people who major in Art History in college are people who don't really need to work.

They had a grand lifestyle but apartments in Tribeca were dirt cheap in early 90s. But yea, Adrienne clearly had some family money.

reply

These were lofts, right?

They were old buildings that had apartments carved out of them with all sorts of drywall and plumbing added inside to make them into apartments.

The construction shown in the last scenes were meant to be a new apartment being built in this old building that was being turned into apartments.

The movie "Ghost" had the same thing - an apartment built out of nothing in an old building with other apartments under construction nearby. As I recall, a lot of old commercial buildings in NYC were turned into apartments. Aren't these the ones they described as "lofts"?

reply

Yes, they are lofts - the real kind - meaning not newconstruction, open plan units described as ''loft-living' but big raw spaces in formerly commercial / manufacturing buildings. I'm pretty sure she was supposed to be living in Tribeca and had her studio in SoHo although the exteriors were an odd mix of nyc and not nyc!

Thanks!

By the way, there was construction going on (for a new loft) visible from her kitchen window. Might have been another building in addition to the construction going on in HER building that provided the scene for a chase sequence at the end of the movie.

big raw spaces in formerly commercial / manufacturing buildings.
Very appealing to imaginative people who want to create unique living spaces, eh?

I don't think Adrian lived in the loft before she was married? At least, I assumed it was her marital home. She refers to her coworker, Charlotte, as her business partner. So it's assumed that she and Charlotte run their own art restoration business. Also, Jack works as an art buyer for a museum. Between the two of them they must have made some good money. Also, Jack was swiping real pieces and selling them on the black market. I am SURE he made great money there, and probably lied to Adrian about where the money was from.

I thought you came up here to have a nervous breakdown. ..I decided not to have one.
