dvd release ? - The Dark Backward (1993) Discussion

I'm not sure, but this is probably one of my most desired DVD releases. Hopefully it will find its way to DVD soon, preferably in a decked-out special edition.

I cant believe this still hasnt come out on DVD yet! What's the deal? Are they gonna wait till im 50 or something? This needs to be on DVD. nuff said.

Maybe it'll even have some interesting special features, but I won't get my hopes up. Just finally having on DVD is good enough for me.

Here is a mystery. Amazon.com now says that the item won't be available until 2010, which is their way of saying that they don't know when it will be released. However, Amazon.ca Amazon's Canadian sister site does list it as being available, as does the Philadelphia based tlavideo.com. So which is it?

well both sites Amazon.ca and tlavideo.com no longer have it available and it seems that the 2010 release date will stay until someone gets off their butt and makes the damn DVD.

What I don't get is why companies are re-releasing movies that are already on DVD, when movies like these are being ignored. I bet if they really tried we could have DVD versions of all movies dating back to 1960 by now...

Damn hollywood.

I'm going to a screening tonight in Hollywood of The Dark Backward. They're going to have a Q&A afterwards that they say will be on the DVD. I'm glad to hear that they're working on Special Features!

i just ordered our store copies...the street date for this one is October 3 now (from sony) with a bunch of extras (including commentary)

just as i feared, its not being released on oct. 4, they now claim the release date is set for 3/30/07. if you guys are curious sony has said it will be a full-screen release and it sounds like there won't be any extras (commentary, featurettes, Q&A etc) this is according to:

I am dying here! This gem was to come out a while ago and I was told that was going to be full of extras. Now full screen and no extras. What gives?

Fear not, an SE with an anamorphic widescreen transfer and extras is still on the way. No solid release date though.

We have just received more news regarding cult flick The Dark Backward, this time straight from Mattt Potter who is at work on the special edition DVD. Here's what Mattt has told us via his recent email: "The dvd will be released in anamorphic widescreen as director Adam Rifkin supervised the transfer himself. It will include all the extra features that we did for the DVD, including:

- Audio Commentary with Director Adam Rifkin, Bill Paxton, Judd Nelson, producer Brad Wyman and Mattt Potter
- Arclight 15th Anniversary Q & A with Adam Rifkin, Bill Paxton, Judd Nelson and Brad Wyman
- Deleted Scenes
- Gag Reel
- Blumps Squeezable Documentary - Directed by Mattt Potter
- Full Length Color Version of the Cat and Mouse Cartoon from the film (animated by Family Guy's Dan Povenmire)
- Cannes Film Festival Video Promos starring Judd Nelson and Adam Rifkin
- Director Video Intros
- Music Video
- Trailer
