This movie provides a warning about the dangers of misplaced loyalty

You've really got to appreciate Marty's pathos in this film.

Of particular significance is when Marty gets the opportunity of a lifetime from talent scout Dirk Delta and is adamant that he will only go through with it if his friend and partner Gus comes along.

Minutes later comes the scene where Marty's third arm has disappeared and he, Gus and their talent agent Jackie are trying to figure out how to deal with the situation. When Jackie decides to break the news to Dirk honestly, Dirk replies that there is still a spot for Gus. Gus immediately jumps on Dirk's offer, showing his true colors by leaving Marty in the lurch. Of course, equally sleazy Jackie has about as much sympathy as a bribed judge for Marty.

The moral of the story mirrors a line from a song by Bob Dylan: "If you need someone to trust, trust yourself".

Just look at you without your toupee! You look like someone who only makes $50,000 a year!
