That chicken scene made me feel sick for an hour and I couldn't help but notice Gus was retching every so often whilst eating it. Was this acting or do you think he was really struggling to keep his stomach from reacting?
According to the special features on the DVD, Bill Paxton said that when he was eatig it, he knew it was just oatmeal but he had a uncontrollable reaction to get sick.
He said it looked like chicken, and so there was some part of him mind that, when he felt the texture, told him it was unsafe to eat. He also mentions that he got dry heaves during the scene, and some of it made it into the movie.
Ah thanks for that! I did wonder... I only have it on video because its not available region 2. I should stop being lazy and plug in my regionless dvd player I think...
I read that the falling-apart chicken was actually made of a chicken bone with oatmeal molded around it and green food coloring or such, and the texture kept making Paxton gag.
