are the subtitles worse on the DVD than the VHS? or are the subtitles poor on both versions..
shareThe dvd (region ALL w/ English subtitles) is available for about US$13 (plus shipping) from www.yesasia.com . But apparently the quality of the dvd is not great, so probably better off buyign the Malaysian VCD from www.sensasian.com .
Obey, trembling creatures, and do not desire, for that is no business of yours!

Great to get that link...Mizoguchi also has Ugetsu released in Novemeber on criterion...And..it should be a great month for me..
I waited a long time for these two movies.
Criterion seem to go for directors...and bunch movies for each....They leave out some directors..and never do one of their movies. Its like that.
Yimou...maybe..isn't thought of.He should
it looks like the date has been changed to january of 06
shareAs of this post, according to Amazon.com, the DVD release date is "December 31st, 1969"

i can't wait... not only a great dvd, but the return of the 60's, free love, and rock n roll.
I rented this from Hollywood Video maybe 6 months ago. The quality was okay, it seemed a lot like you were seeing it in the theatre. I saw it when I was in college and one of my roomies spoke mandarin and cantonese. She said they translated the film pretty well into English. :)
