I just rented this movie from blockbuster, great movie by the way, but omg, the english subtitles were terrible. How can so many spelling and gramatical errors occur? Don't they pay someone to look over a second time and make sure there are no errors? I know subtitles can't always convey the true meaning of the words being spoken, but my god it felt like they used some crappy online translator.

The only one worth getting is the digitally-remastered version released by ERA this year. It is 16:9 anamorphic with proper English subs.

I am so happy to hear that a remastered version has been made.
I waited for years to buy the DVD and when it arrived, the color was badly faded and the subtitles were laughable.
Complained bitterly to the west coast distributor who said that the masters had been destroyed by the Chinese government and that the only master spared was being held in Montreal. Thank heaven, it was saved because this is an exquisite movie.

My video store only carries the lousy DVD version. Not only are the subtitles awful, but the soundtrack is nothing to write home about either. There were several points in the movie where there's a loud crackling sound in the background.

ERA's Hong Kong version is a welcome addition, and is also aesthetically pleasing in terms of packaging (for those who take pride in their library's appearance).
