The Girls Next Door

Last night I watched The Girls Next Door, Hugh Hefner's new reality show about his three blond girlfriends. I couldn't help thinking about this film because of the similarities. I remember a while ago I saw a special about Hefner and he even had more girlfriends back then between the ages of 19 -40something. Now he only has three (so far!) Blond Girlfriend Number 1- 20something with dark brown eyes, Blond Girlfriend Number 2 - with deep blue eyes and freckles, and the youngest Blond Girlfriend Number 3 - 19 with clear blue eyes. So far that's the only way I can disinguish between them!

But anyway this is the American version of Raise The Red Lantern if there ever was one. Just thought I would give the heads up for anyone who's interested. But it is disturbing to watch. I have to wonder if old Hef will somehow make this series a little more light but so far the last two episodes were very uncomfortable to view. The girls constantly vie for Hef's attention, especially blond girlfriend number 1 who tells us how she wants to get rid of the other girlfriends so she and Hef can get married. Good luck Number 1 you're gonna need it! All of the girlfriends scheme and plot to get rid of possible platemates who enter the mansion (getting them drunk, take them to batting cages where balls fly full speed near their faces) because they are jealous that they can never be playmates. Because if Hef allowed his girlfriends to be playmates then he would not have the power over them that he once had. Not only will he not allow them to be playmates, but he will not even allow them to be in his magazine at all! That is until he has a reality show and needs them to advertise it. You're a slick one Hef!

If I had a nickel for every cigarette your mom smoked, I'd be dead.

Very interesting parallel...I can see it.

If you're interested in more shows like this, you should check out HBO's Big Love. It's the best show on TV!

Cousin Cheryl, I don't think the family REALLY knows you.

Mine too. I never liked Hugh Hefner, by the way. I wonder if he would execute his unfaithful girlfriends (o come on, being together with an old fart must make you want to cheat…) if he was entitled to do so.
