Ug Betrayal possible explanation....

Maybe it wasn't the real Ug. I mean, how do you tell one shapeshifting faceless bounty hunter from another? He coulda just said he was Ug to play off of Charlie's trust. He certainly was more eloquent than the Ug we remember.

He asked us, "Be you angels?"
and we said, "NAY, we are but men," ROCK!

reply

It was Ug. No two ways about it. It's fairly evident when Charlie points the Colt 45 at him... "You can't do it, Charlie. You never could"... Hardly the words of someone who never met him before.

reply

But maybe the words of someone who wanted to convince him he had.

reply

Uh...dude, great theory an' all, but....

..I dooooon't think the writer's were intelligent enough for that.

See you in the funnies.

I think he went crazy from his partner dying. He probably got back to space and just didnt care anymore or he decided to make more money.

Well you know what i first saw the Critter series when i was about eight. And seeing Ug choose his power over freindship that happend fifty years ago was a very powerful scene. I was shook by it back then and just bought the box set and absolutly love the ending scene.

And to people saying Ug going bad he would never do that and it was wrong. You will find anyone will do anything with power in there hands.

Juice Newton, did you know that they named orange juice after her?

reply

You are very true on what you are saying man! It is possible that the power went to Ug's head. I mean it is possible that they could do a 5th movie to explain as to why Ug went bad.

What I mean by that is Charlie is upset after killing Ug and goes into great detail as to what happened with Ug. That would be interesting for the start of the 5th Critters movie.

Maybe after Lee died, Ug lost it and became bitter.

reply

Possibly that was the case that might have happened.

From a motivation perspective, that seems a little unlikely. The Critters kill Lee so Ug turns on Charlie to help keep the species alive? The idea that the film seems to convey is that as years went along, the agenda changed and Ug turned into a company man. This film seems very much modeled after the "Alien" films.

Maybe it wasn't the real Ug, it was probably another shapeshifter who killed him and took his form.

Doubtful or it would have been established as such.

I recently went on the "Critters Rehatched" site and this is
Don Opper's reply to someone who asked why Ug was bad.

"Ug being evil in Critters 4 was deliberate from the start when
the script was written. They wanted him to be bad because it
would play off better for the sympathy of Charlie."

Charlie didn't need that to be sympathetic. I already felt bad for him being stuck years in the future and all of his friends are dead.
