Did U Know Charles Bronson Turned Down The Curly Role?Read Here!
Billy Crystal tells the story behind the scenes on how this film got made in his new book Still Foolin''Em.He talks about how the role was offered to Jack Palance and he wanted to do it,but was also attached to another project. So Billy thought of going in another direction and wanted Charles Bronson.Well when the script was sent to Charles he eventually called Billy back and when Billy said Hello Mr.Bronson how are you doing,he responded back and said **** you,and Billy waited a minuted thinking it was some kind of joke or punchline.Billy then said excuse me?And Charles said it again and said how dare you kill me off by page 64.I don't die in my films,**** you he said again. And Billy was like Mr. Bronson it's a great part and role for you and yes,you did die in The Magnificent Seven. He then said the expletive again and hung up.And then eventually Jack Palance was able to get out of the other project and came aboard.Billy also said when they took the film to Cannes,he saw Charles there with Sean Penn promoting The Indian Runner and he gave him a quick stare and walked away. And then Billy said after Jack won the Golden Globe and Academy Award,he wondered what Charles Bronson was thinking on the night of the oscars when Jack Palance won for best supporting actor for the role he turned down.To be honest with you I was actually shocked at that by Charles Bronson.Even though Jack Palace was amazing in the role,I think Charles Bronson would have done good as well and it might have helped his career get back to bigger roles, instead of doing another Death Wish sequel and made for tv movies after that.
