One of the most underrated sequels of all-time.

I will never understand how the general public excused the zany plot of the first movie, but found the sequel much too far out there....I truly just don't understand what people expected to see when they saw this movie. The writers and director were obligated to top the first one with an unfathomably bizarre plotline, and they totally pulled it off.

I find this movie to have incredible charm. It's highly imaginative, adventurous, and the most fun 80's movie to not come out of the 80s.
Also, you can't deny it's brilliant finale. Gotta' love that Steve Vai solo.

I liked it better than the first myself. And I do love the ending.

I was very pleasantly surprised at how good a sequel of "Excellent Adventure" could be. It was not only better than the first, but it was almost a different genre. And yet the script was even written by the same team.

There's something about Bill's phobia of having to kiss the hairy chin of his grandmother as the basis for the living nightmare of his personal hell that is truly comic: what could highlight the limited imaginations of these characters better than what the smallness of what their ultimate Visions of Hell turn out to be?
And William Sadler as Death stole every scene he was in. Death - A needy, self-centered, wanna-be, plucking at the sleeves of Bill and Ted as being the ones who finally bested him was almost too funny.

I think this might have been an example of studio execs who were so pleased with the results of the first film, than they gave a green light to the writers to do whatever they wanted with the sequel - little realizing that it would be so totally different than the first (if they had suspected, I'm not sure it would have ever been made).

I found I like the second better myself. I also tend to watch it more often than the first one. Not taking anything away from the original at all.

I still like the first more, but I do like that we see what allowed them to become the saviors they do. It makes a lot of sense that their band would need to incorporate more than just two humans to achieve the harmony Rufus spoke of in the first movie.

Girl, it ain't my fault you lack the flavor.

i like the first better. the scenes with DEATH were funny and the end with KISS was ok too. but overall the feel was not the greatest.
what they should have done better:
- use better villain (robots were annyoing !!)
- use better music (more kickass 80s instead of the more grunge styled 90s)
- travel througout the times

so to me the first seemed more colorful and like a true classic and the second had too many annoying parts...

maybe the music is what really helped the first one in the end (for me)...

It has been many years since I last saw the Bill and Ted films. I think I last saw them in the early 90s.

I remember seeing Bogus Journey in the theater back in 1991, and I thought it was better than Excellent Adventure at the time. I thought the special effects were wonderful and I also enjoyed the cinematography.

I was all alone with my opinion in my family at the time. My whole family including cousins and my dad thought the first one was the best. I liked the first one, but I thought it was more childish.

I don't know what I would think of them today, but they are now available on HBO on Demand, so I will check them out.

I absolutely agree with everything people say, the writers seems to have cart balance with the success of the first film, and didn't make time travel part 2, they took the characters and placed them in a similar adventure situation and gave great closure to the story.

reply

well i'm sure most people expected the sequel to be another time travel story and because it wasn't, it soured their expectations and opinions.

This is easily the better of the two Bill & Ted films. Sadler's death is hilarious. This is a prime example of a sequel that raises the bar. It just does everything better. Death couldn't be funnier, Station is funny, Evil Robot Bill & Ted....this movie has everything.

I just hope that 'Bill & Ted 3' can hold up to this one.

You're from the future?Well that's brilliant!Do they still have sandwiches there?
