I mean at the end of excellent adventure its pretty out in the open that Bill and Ted have a time machine and brought all these historical people to San Dimas and they even have a 521st birthday party for the princesses on bogus journey but Ted's dad is still like "sell your instruments, you will never make it,I'm embarrassed to have you as my son,I'll send you off to military school"

My take on the time machine from excellent adventure is that everyone thought it was just some stage theatrics. And with the birthday cards saying 521st, I assumed that no one take Bill or Ted (or the likelihood of time travel being real) serious enough to think "maybe they did come from the Middle Ages."
In any case, like Zeo said, the actor was great imitating Ted. Possibly my favorite part of the movie.
