I know this has probably been asked before but I was just wondering if there has been any recent plans to re-release this movie on DVD or Blu-Ray? I would love to see it the whole way through and it might even be worth buying but not for the kind of prices that are on the net now for the very rare DVD.
shareI bought my dvd of Begotten on amazon for $70.00. That's probably the only way you are going to be able to get the dvd - spending a lot. I'm sure there aren't any plans, at least right now, to re-release Begotten on dvd or blu-ray. Sorry.
Actually, now that I think of it, you MIGHT be able to find a dvd of Begotten on ebay for a low price. Other than that, there's no other way.

this film strikes me as something Criterion would release
shareI really didn't like this movie when I first bought the DVD (for about $18, at a great horror specialty store), I thought it was quite dull after the first fifteen minutes. But I do find myself interested in revisiting it. Too bad it's so rare now.
shareCriterion should definitely release this film on DVD and Blu-Ray. While they're at it they should also include Din of Celestial Birds in the release.

shareJust keep emailing them at '[email protected]'. Eventually, if enough people consistently petition for a Begotten release, they should be motivated enough to secure the rights to release it. It may take years before that may happen though. There are a lot of fine films that deserve to have a Criterion release but do not for one reason or another.
