Did Dorothy Jane inspire you to read classics?

I read Jane Eyre when I was twelve because it was talked about in an episode of Almost Home and I thought it sounded interesting. I remember thinking in general that Dorothy Jane was really smart and that her love of literature was the ultimate in cool (go figure?). I completely wanted to be like her.

A couple months back I read A Tale of Two Cities and about halfway through I remembered attempting to read it as a kid because Dorothy Jane had described it as a love story where the lovers don't meet until the very last page.

Was I just way too impressionable or did she inspire any other 90's kids out there?

I remember I read Great Expectations when I was 14 and I loved it and even though I hadn't seen an episode in two or three years, I thought of Dorothy Jane because she was a fan of Dickens.

Dorothy Jane Torkelson was the original Rory Gilmore.

Now Father, you're living in the past. This is the 14th century!

although actually the original (as in, the first ^_^) characters of that type were in books, not TV shows! ^_~

(I was sort of like Rory too...if you leave out the part about knowing early on what college one wants to go to...I really wasn't even planning to go to college, I figured I would just keep learning from books...but then when I was eighteen I started taking classes at the local community college, which turned out to have a terrific theater program, so I actually stayed until I graduated...but I was and am bookish, not schoolish [yes, there really is a fairly major difference between those, believe it or not!!! ^_~].)

I already loved reading the classics before The Torkelsons ever existed...which is probably one of the several reasons why Dorothy Jane was my favorite character (I think it was probably her being imaginative and talking to the man in the moon that really pulled me in, though ^_^).

Was Dorothy Jane's description of A Tale of Two Cities in the original Torkelsons series or in The Torkelsons: Almost Home?

(Sorry I don't remember...it's been about a million years since I saw either series...I did really love them at the time, though...gee, I wish Disney Channel would bring back their "Vault Disney" section and include some of their best 1990's shows in it!!! ^_^)

Love of literature being the ultimate in cool...I love that idea...I'm sure Dorothy Jane would too!!! ^_^

A Tale of Two Cities was mentioned in the original Torkelsons, which I remember because Dorothy Jane described it to that so-called "fence neighbor" boy and actually got him to read it. For some reason that struck me as the most amazing and impressive feat!

I too would love for Disney to re-air some of their older shows, but I'm not holding my breath. I'll just have to make due with my memories, which are surprisingly clear thanks to the astounding number of times Disney played its shows when they were in rotation.

Yes! she was the whole reason why I read Jane Eyre! I was also about 12 when I read it as well.
